Chuck Danford
Painting Techniques on Yupo -- September 2, 2017
The September Heritage workshop with instructor Chuck Danford was well-attended and a lot of fun. The results of mixing paint on Yupo are somewhat unpredictable but always exciting. It is possible to get textures and blends that would be very difficult to achieve on traditional watercolor paper.
Chuck worked on a painting during the class to demonstrate a variety of interesting effects that can be achieved with this paper. He showed the group how to lay the color down, spray it with water to get interesting mixes, and erase mistakes by simply wiping the area with a wet brush or tissue. He also demonstrated spraying semi-dry paint with water to produce the same effect as salt added to paint on traditional watercolor paper. The students received individual guidance and lots of encouragement from the instructor, which made the workshop a wonderful learning experience.
Chuck is a Colorado native and graduate of the Colorado Institute of Art. His long career in graphic design preceded his professional career as a watercolor artist.
