Join mixed media artist, Amelia Furman in creating a piece to help you focus on your word of the year.  Amelia will walk you through her collage process, including design and gluing techniques and paint and pencil embellishing techniques so that by the end of the workshop, you have a beautiful, mixed media piece that helps you keep your word of the year in clear focus all year long.

Amelia will provide instruction and demonstration throughout the 3 hour workshop. Each student will be supplied with printable downloads to supplement their own collage collection.

Supply List:                                           >> download Supply List
  • 6x6 or 8x8 canvas panel or gessoed hardboard.  Gallery wrapped canvases can also be used if you don't want to frame your piece.
  • Be sure to have your word picked out.  Create a text piece that uses your word (hand done or printed or found in collage materials.  I would suggest having the piece sized to fit across the canvas or approx 3/4 of the canvas.  ie:  if you're working with a   6 x 6, have the word be 4-6" in length so that it takes up most of the canvas size.)
  • If you need help finding your word for the year, you can download this FREE word guide:

(email subscribers already on my list can email me directly and I'll provide a link to the PDF)
  • Scissors/exacto blade
  • Collage materials to supplement your word (One or two pieces of patterned or textured paper, 1 large collage element that illustrates your word and two smaller pieces that compliment or further illustrate the word)
  • Heavy Gel Matte medium (here's a link:
https://www.dickblick.com/items/golden-heavy-acrylic-gel-medium-matte-8-oz-jar/  Alternative is Mod Podge (matte)
  • Stiff 1-2" flat brush for gluing collage materials down
  • Plexi-glass panel (available at Home Depot) or a coated paper palette page.
  • Graphite pencil
  • Hair dryer
  • Acrylic paints and small brushes (I usually have several small flat brushes for details as well as a liner brush).  Please have a water cup, paper palette and paper towels to go with your paint set up.
  • Colored pencils, paint pens, or permanent artist markers
