Join Kimberly Dwyer for a two-day immersive workshop where art meets mindfulness. This in-person workshop invites participants to dive into the world of collage, exploring a range of techniques while connecting with their creative center. Perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike, this workshop offers a friendly and supportive space to experiment, create, and grow.
Workshop Goals:
- Learn techniques for creating unique collage papers using paints, stencils, gel plates, and more.
- Explore color mixing, color theory, and composition to create harmonious pieces.
- Develop layered backgrounds that add depth and dimension to your work.
- Discover how to seamlessly adhere collage papers and choose the right adhesives for your projects.
- Connect to your creative intuition with mindfulness practices woven into the experience.
- Friday:
o Morning (9:00–11:30): Introduction to materials and techniques for creating collage papers. Experiment with paints, stencils, gel plates, and texture tools to produce a variety of unique papers.
o Lunch Break (11:30–12:30)
o Afternoon (12:30–3:00): Create mini abstracted collages to refine adhesive techniques, understand how chosen papers interact, and experiment with composition. - Saturday:
o Morning (9:00–11:30): Select your subject, sketch, and plan your composition and colors. Begin creating rich, layered backgrounds for your main project.
o Lunch Break (11:30–12:30)
o Afternoon (12:30–3:00): Focus on the main project. Apply collage elements and work toward completing your piece, incorporating techniques and personal creative expression.
Essential Supplies
- Soft body or fluid acrylic paint in white, black, red, blue, yellow (can substitute gesso for white and/or black)
- Couple sheets of heavy mixed media or water color paper (roughly 90 pound or heavier), or heavy sketch book paper
- One 12"x12" or smaller wrapped canvas, canvas board, or cradled board.
- Paint brushes
- Palette/palette paper
- Water container for brushes
- Gel plate highly recommended but can share with a friend
- Brayer for gel plate
- Rice paper (the heavier sketch pad I recommended) Link to Rice Paper
- White tissue paper
- One non-water-soluble mark making tool (for instance a posca pen, a gel pen, a micron pen, etc.)
- Gloss gel and matte medium for adhering papers (could use mod podge if easier to get/already have)
- Whatever texture tools or found papers/ephemera/old books you have and would like to use--be creative

Kimberly Dwyer is a multi-creative entrepreneur who seamlessly blends her expertise as a clinical psychologist with her passion for art. In addition to running a thriving private practice and offering therapy and coaching services, Kim is the author of four books, including Mindful Mondays and Rocky’s Christmas Journey.
Her art practice is deeply informed by mindfulness, focusing on intuition and creativity as tools for self-expression. Kim works primarily with acrylics and collage, favoring natural subjects interpreted through abstracted realism. A self-taught artist, she enjoys exploring a variety of mediums and techniques, continually pushing the boundaries of her creativity.
Kim is a member of the Heritage Fine Arts Guild and has exhibited her work in local art shows and galleries. She believes in the transformative power of creativity and invites others to explore their unique artistic voices.
