Nationally Known Artist Burridge’s popular “Loosen Up” workshops nurture individual success and personal enrichment with a big emphasis on daily painting projects at your own pace. It is stress-free, but be warned; you could end up with too much enthusiasm for painting.
This Burridge flagship workshop offers a variety of painting subjects for everyone. Designed for the professional painter who is stuck in a style as well as for the novice who wants to conquer their fear of painting. Starting each day with multiple, small “warm-up painting exercises” and up to larger-format paintings, Burridge’s positive approach towards the act of painting will inspire you to loosen up, have fun again and paint more!
Expect an intense, concentrated and lively workshop where you will create many works of art using spontaneity for maximum effect. This workshop has become a must for artists who want the confidence and permission to paint the way they have always wanted to paint.
Students will receive notes of useful and need-to-know information via email. Burridge’s newest color combination technique is also demonstrated. A positive attitude is a must!

Watercolor beginnings and wire drawing for details make this workshop a new experience for all painters! Wire drawing (using permanent markers to make the objects look like a wire sculpture) is very popular now. It is fun process, and the wrong lines that you draw will actually benefit the finished painting.
Students will learn how to make an abstract background and many special techniques to create texture. They may choose between flowers, birds, and abstract figures for their subject matter. Wire drawing (using a marker to create a drawing that looks like a wire sculpture) is the bonus for this workshop! It is the secret ingredient to successful paintings. Get ready to loosen up in this workshop! |

Paper:
- 1 full sheet cold press paper. ( I use Arches 140 lb. but you can work on whatever paper you’d like) We will divide this in class. We will be working on paintings that are size 11” x 15”, (or smaller), so bring a foam core board or other support about 12” x 16”, for attaching paper to.
- Bring your palette filled with your usual colors. Because everyone always asks, my palette is as follows. I use mainly transparent colors. (Please do not feel that you must go out and buy these colors. The most important 5 colors are listed first.) Aureolin yellow, permanent rose (or DaVinci red rose deep), cobalt blue, winsor green, alizarin crimson, antwerp blue, French ultramarine blue, manganese blue, cerulean blue, quinacridone gold, burnt sienna, permanent magenta, winsor red, neutral tint, and scarlet lake.
- Watercolor brushes (bring your favorites) I use 1” flat and ½ “flat, and a small (#6) round brush.
- Palette knife (make sure it’s thin enough to fit into the neck of the masking fluid bottle.). You can use a plastic knife if you want.
Miscellaneous:
- Water containers (old Cool Whip containers work great) bring 2.
- Toothbrush
- Sponge or rag for wiping off your brushes. Masking tape.
- Sketch pad or notebook for taking notes.
- Fine and ultra fine black permanent marker ( I like Twin Top Sharpie markers, available at office supply stores.)
- 2 Pencil and eraser
- Tracing paper
- Graphite paper (Saral graphite colored brand is my favorite- available at Dick Blick art supply stores)
- Ruler
- Masking fluid. (I use Pebeo brand, because of its fluidity and that it is grey in color.)
- Kleenex brand tissues (because they pop up for easy grabbing)
- Margarita salt or table salt
- Spray bottle (I use a push button top, old Windex bottle. You can usually get these at small convenience gas stations.)
- Reference photos of your choice of subject.
- Pebeo porcelain outliner tubes. My favorite color is gold. (This is gold paint that is raised when applied. It usually is for painting on glass. These are available through Cheap Joes Art supply catalog or at Micheals Art Supply Store.)
- Masking tape.
Optional items:
- Blow dryer (optional)
- Non- stretch Gauze (optional)
- (Optional). Bring whatever acrylic metallic paints that you have. My favorite is Lumiere metallic acrylic paints. I use both copper and gold.
- Optional: Gold reactive foil (12” rolls available at Hobby Lobby) I use this instead of gold leaf. It’s easier. :). You can also order gold foil paper from www.joggles.com
- Optional: Double stick tape that is available in the craft section of Michaels. I use a big one that is used for framing purposes, but a small one will work just fine. I use this to attach the gold foil paper.
