![]() Children see the world through honest eyes, and that is reflected in the art that they create. As they grow up It is regrettable that they are gradually taught to see the world as adults see it.
In artist Jane Shoenfeld’s two-day workshop sponsored by the Heritage Fine Arts Guild you will discover how a specific scene is a template onto which your interior vision is projected. In seeing the way in which a child sees you will discover how a tree, a cloud or even a shadow is sending you a very personal invitation. Shoenfeld will not be teaching you to copy what you see. Instead through exercises and examples, you will explore the interior vision hidden within the visible image and you will find the mystery and personal magic in the landscape. All you need is an interest in color and a personal connection to nature. Students of all levels of experience are welcome to join the class. Jane Schoenfeld hold a BFA and a master’s degree in art therapy from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. With an extensive background in art and teaching, Jane enjoys working both in her studio and in the open air of New Mexico. Gelli Plate Printmaking
![]() Are you over this whole pandemic mess? Not up for more political arguing? Want to spend a morning just clearing away all that negativity? If so, consider Alanna Austin’s printmaking workshop on Saturday March18, 2023. Sponsored by the Heritage Fine Arts Guild, this workshop will afford plenty of opportunity to remove negativity and add positivity and have a fun time in the bargain. No skills needed, just enthusiasm.
Monotype printmaking is a technique that generally produces only one good impression from each prepared plate as opposed to multiple prints generated in other printmaking techniques. Monotypes are made by drawing on glass or a plate of smooth metal or stone to which ink or paint is applied in order to create form, color, and line. Then the drawing is pressed by hand onto a sheet of paper. In this workshop, participants will use the newly developed techniques of gelli plate printmaking to create form, color, and line. They will also be introduced to the technical approaches of making non editioned images. These techniques are important as they do not require a press; nor do they require much set up and can be done from home. The process can be continued in any environment because nontoxic inks are used. Alanna holds an MFA in printmaking from the University of Colorado. Her work has been displayed in galleries across the United States and was recently featured in a solo exhibition at the Denver Art Museum. Another solo exhibit opened in August 2022 in Melbourne, Australia. The workshop will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Littleton at 1609 W. Littleton Blvd in Littleton from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $35 for All Heritage Fine Arts Guild members and $50 for non-members. Space at the church accommodates 20 students. Come join award-winning artist Cliff Austin on Saturday, November 5, 2022, and learn to paint from photographs!
An experienced landscape painter, Austin will guide you in capturing the landscape with an expressive and loose style. You will gain new ideas on color and composition to accurately express your own vision. You will paint in the “alla prima” method, discovering ways especially suited to landscapes. The focus of the class will be on the elements and principals of painting and also on drawing confidently and accurately. The class is suitable for all levels, but drawing experience is required. The core of Cliff’s art is the relationship of light on shape using line, tone, and color as it wraps and flows around the landscape, cityscape, and figures. “Colorful”, “Impressionistic”, and sometimes “very abstract” are words used to describe his work. After Cliff’s quick demonstration, you will dive into creating your own direct and exciting masterpiece. Cliff Austin is a graduate of Denver Institute of Technology and the Rocky Mountain School of Art. He lives in Aurora Colorado where he has his studio. He has been painting and illustrating since 1980 after graduating from the Rocky Mountain School of Art. He has affiliations with many Colorado art organizations such as the Pastel Society of Colorado, the Plein Air Artists of Colorado, the Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionists Society. ![]() If you have ever had the desire to create an abstract painting but didn’t know where to begin, then this workshop is for you. You will learn the principles of abstracts and be able to apply them to work that is uniquely your own.
Led by abstract artist Christian Dore, he will guide you through each stage of your painting from start to finish. A Colorado resident for the past several years, his current artistic focus has turned to painting, as the extraordinary landscape of his present home provides a grounding and inspiration for his work. It is the warmth and optimism of the Colorado landscape, enhanced by the dramatically changing seasons, which set the tone for his dazzlingly varied color palettes. ![]() Are you just over this whole pandemic mess? Not up for more political arguing? Want to spend a morning just clearing away all that negativity? If so, consider Alanna Austin’s printmaking workshop for Heritage Fine Arts Guild on September 17, 2022. Plenty of opportunity to remove negativity and add positivity and have a fun time in the bargain. The technique dates back to the seventeenth century and was subsequently used by such notable artists as William Blake, Edgar Degas, and Paul Gauguin. The major advantage of monotype printing is that it doesn’t require a press or much setup. Austin’s workshop will use the relatively new technique of gelli plate printmaking. This process uses a gelatin plate instead of glass or other hard substances. Alanna holds an MFA in printmaking from the University of Colorado. Her work has been displayed in galleries across the United States and was recently featured in a solo exhibition at the Denver Art Museum. ![]() The Heritage Fine Arts Guild is pleased to welcome back Lance Green for one of his acclaimed workshops on contemporary art.
Lance Green has a rich and extensive background in the field of contemporary art. He was born in Denver and lived there until the age of nine when he traveled with his mother and stepfather to various parts of the country, including the high country of the Colorado Rockies, the Texarkana Bayou, and the deserts of New Mexico and Arizona. While in the Southwest, he became immersed in native art and culture. During summers he spent time with his father and stepmother. It was there that he was taught to paint by Norwegian abstract painter Chris Christopherson, a huge influence on his love of modern art. Eventually he wound up in Los Angeles, spending his high school and college years developing his love of Latin art and culture. In LA, his high school art teacher, Linda Stevens, took an interest in him and provided the instruction and guidance that was vital in setting his life course as an artist. Majoring in art at Rio Hondo College in East LA, he lived and painted in the South Bay area, becoming a fixture in the art world until he moved to Colorado in 2004. He now lives and paints in his studio there. In the late 1990s Lance did a series of intensive one-on-one workshops with the late contemporary Master Fritz Scholder. Other influences include the San Francisco figurative expressionists, Gauguin, Cezanne, Kandinsky, Klee, the Fauves, De Kooning, Basquiat, and the Latin masters. Green is considered a pioneer in contemporary art, exploring worlds previously unchartered. His workshops are always educational and empowering. Artists find that his methods are key to promoting the flow of creative juices. He encourages participants to be free and spontaneous with their paint, thus creating their own autobiographical statement. “These are the best paintings” Green says. “Fun with Lance Green” will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Littleton at 1609 W. Littleton Blvd in Littleton from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $35 for All Heritage Fine Arts Guild members and $50 for non-members. Space at the church accommodates 20 students. ![]() The Heritage Fine Arts Guild invites you to join noted watercolorist and teacher Phyllis Vandehaar on Saturday, May 28 for some painting fun.
Art has always been an integral part of Phyllis’s life. She earned a BA and an MFA from the University of Colorado in Fine Arts. She spent her career as a high school art instructor with the bulk of the years at Arapahoe High School in Littleton. Her mantra has always been "If art isn't challenging, enlightening, and enjoyable while still requiring the thinking process, there is something wrong!" In retirement she teaches a few private lessons as well as classes and workshops. Phyllis is also a working artist in watercolor, mixed media, pastels, charcoal, and collage. While capable of realistic imagery, she prefers abstract subject matter through loosely applied color and brush work. Her greatest sense of achievement is inventing subject matter, using vibrant color, creating unusual relationships, and simply making up things as she produces her art. Her artistic efforts often lead her into what are sometimes impossible situations and subtle tongue-in-cheek humor. She says, "I don't know what I would have done with my life had I not been an artist!" The workshop will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Littleton at 1609 W. Littleton Blvd in Littleton from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $25 for All Heritage Fine Arts Guild members and $35 for non-members. Space at the church accommodates 20 students. Saturday September 7, 2019 – Acrylic Fun with Lance Green

Lance Green is a Colorist and an Expressionist, a Storyteller that conjures images that take the viewer beyond the mere likeness of a subject into the secret soul that lies hidden beneath. The greater part of his works are self-portraits of sorts, but all are universal in their application, expressing the human paradox of grace and despair in a way that somehow speaks invocations for the subject and viewer in hopes of resolving the work with a sound conviction in an ultimate redemption in all things.
At the beginning of the workshop Lance wants each student to write down exactly what they would like to focus on, be it color mixing, composition, how to paint a particular subject. Everyone has things they struggle with and things they love to do in a painting. Let’s work on whatever it is we need in the area of acrylic painting.
Materials: Bring your acrylic art supplies, water container, apron, etc. and 2 canvases in the 24x36, 30x40, 36x48 range. Lance will provide 3x5 cards and will spend the first ten minutes having attendees write out what they want to work on.
Registration: Register on-line at www.heritage-guild.com and select Current Workshops.
Cost: The cost is $35 for ALL Heritage Fine Arts Guild members, $50 for non-members. Membership is only $40 and sign-up forms are at http://heritage-guild.com/membership.html.
Location: The workshop is scheduled for Saturday September 7, 2019 from 9 am to 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 1609 W. Littleton Blvd. at the northwest corner of Littleton Boulevard and Windermere Street. Breakfast coffee and treats will be provided. Please feel free to bring treats to share.

Saturday May 4, 2019 Intuitive Painting Workshop with Victoria Kwasinski

The Heritage Fine Arts Guild of Arapahoe County presents another in a series of one-day workshops led by popular Denver artist and teacher Victoria Kwasinski.
Victoria asks the question,” Remember when you were a child, and you were lying in the grass and found stories and shapes in the clouds?” We will explore finding shapes, themes, stories from initial washes of color and mark making; then, using our intuition we will develop these ideas into a great painting. This workshop is for artists of all levels and all mediums.
Kwasinski holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design where she graduated class valedictorian. She has over 30 years of experience as a professional artist and has worked as a corporate graphic artist, freelance illustrator, gallery owner, fine artist and art instructor.
Victoria considers herself an ‘interpretive abstract’ artist. Her goal is to create an abstracted visual interpretation of a thought, feeling or idea through the interplay of color and form that is often interwoven and connected with line.
Ms. Kwasinski has been teaching drawing and painting extensively throughout the Denver Metropolitan area since 1996. She has taught workshops and extended class sessions, served as an exhibit juror, and has held critiques and demonstrations for various arts associations including, but not limited to: The Colorado Watercolor Society, The Colorado Pastel Society, Foothills Art Center, Heritage Fine Arts Guild, Denver Allied Artists Guild, Aurora Artists Guild, Broomfield Art Guild, Park Hill Art Club, Business of Art Center, and other public and private associations.
Victoria works in a variety of art mediums, and the versatility of her work serves a varied audience. She is a published illustrator, and her fine art is represented by galleries, shown in local and national juried exhibitions, and is collected internationally including collections of: The National Institute of Art/Taipei, Taiwan; The National Museum of Brazil/MUBE; His Holiness Cealo/Japan; Dr. Arun Gandhi; musician Nawang Khechog, and numerous private collections. She has contributed art works or services to groups including; The Mask Project, The Global Art Project, Project Safeguard, Art that Heals, and The Alzheimer’s Association.
Of her lifetime journey as an Artist, Victoria states, “Art is my passion and my joy! I believe that we are here to live our purpose as defined by what we are passionate about, that which makes our heart sing.

April 25 and 26 – Watercolor Painting with Energy and Freedom with Artist Steve Griggs

The Heritage Fine Arts Guild presents another in its series of fine art workshops. Watercolorist Steve Griggs will invite participants to explore a variety of watercolor painting strategies and techniques with the goal of becoming totally loose and free. Short warm-up sketches will precede finished landscapes, cityscapes and/or waterscape paintings. Steve’s keen sense of humor is sure to invoke lots of laughter and camaraderie as students move out of their comfort zones.
Steve's love of art started early in life. While other children would lament field trips to the art museum, that was his favorite day of the school year! Steve's mother bought his first 'real' watercolor set of six tubes of paint, when he was in elementary school and his love of watercolor was born. Growing up in a large family made finding time and space for painting difficult. Whenever possible Steve would steal away to the basement of his childhood home where he would paint but never show anyone what he had done.
Steve remained a 'closet artist' until he attended Michigan State University and graduated with a degree in Studio Art. Steve later attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and studied Industrial Design. It wasn't until 2005 that Steve began to paint professionally, showing his paintings in galleries and juried art exhibitions. He currently has signature membership with Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Society and Colorado Watercolor Society.
Steve's earliest influences and inspirations came from the Great Lakes region where he grew up. Throughout his lifetime he has been enamored of boats. Sailing vessels, lake freighters, military frigates; any type of boat has captured his imagination. Although Steve has resided in Colorado for many years, his paintings often reflect his love of the Great Lakes, fostered by frequent trips to his hometown near Detroit, Northern Michigan, and Wisconsin.
In addition to boats, Steve also paints landscapes and cityscapes. Steve frequently displays and sells work in local, state, regional, national, and international exhibitions and galleries. He offers workshops, demonstrations, and salons, as well as individual and small group painting lessons to help other artists understand and learn his unique style. Steve's students range from the very inexperienced artist to the professional painter. His paintings can be found on Facebook,Twitter, and Instagram.
Steve is currently represented by Mirada Fine Art Gallery in Indian Hills, Colorado. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Watercolor Society and continues his early love of art.

Saturday, April 6, 2019 – The Versatility of Painting with Acrylics with Christa MacFarlane

LITTLETON, CO. The Heritage Fine Arts Guild of Arapahoe County will host a fine art workshop led by Christa MacFarlane. MaFarlane is a professional artist and art instructor who uses different acrylic painting techniques on paper and wood. She calls these techniques “Loose and Drippy and Brave and Intuitive.” This workshop is for all skill levels and will encourage students to loosen up and become more expressive. It’s all about having fun while trying techniques like scraping, dripping and stamping.
MacFarlane says, “Observing nature throughout the fields and trails of Colorado provides inspiration for my paintings and “hits close to home —where I live and who I am. Native Colorado plants often represent a message or story reflecting my life, my philosophy on life or a snapshot of life itself. Adding symbolism and recognition to otherwise overlooked parts of nature intrigues me. Although the subject matter that I paint is often made up of the ordinary, it certainly challenges me to find a deeper meaning and this is what drives me to make a statement. My attraction to the loose and fluid nature of acrylics on raw wood makes sense as it relates to my expressive and explorative nature.”
Christa MacFarlane is attracted to the loose and fluid nature of acrylics on raw wood, as she paints native grasses, seeds, pods and weeds along with other unnoticed elements of nature. When she stops to admire these underappreciated Colorado gems, her medium and subject matter makes sense to her. She is reminded of her childhood memories—running through the wide-open spaces of Kansas cattle fields blanketed in flowing wild grasses. While listening to the whistling chorus of crickets cutting through the summer breeze, she would often pause to release the seeds of a dandelion or to feel the fluidity of the cool stream water rushing through her fingers. These experiences provided her with the freedom and opportunity to dream, explore and nurture her creativity—much like the process of her painting today. MacFarlane’s strong illustrative skills, honed from a young age, aren’t necessarily revealed in her current work. Instead, she chooses to loosely depict her subject matter in her contemporary botanical paintings.
Once she obtained her BFA degree, MacFarlane established over twenty-five years combined experience as an interior designer, graphic artist and art instructor. Eventually she yearned to take time for personal creative reflection. While on a sabbatical in Europe she will never forget the emotional and spiritual impact of some of the greatest masters’ works. It was then that she resolved to transition into a career as a professional artist. This time period of travel and experimenting gave way to new expressive qualities in her artwork.
Pre-registration is required for the workshop and artists aged 18 years and older may attend. A registration form is available at (http://heritage-guild.com/current-workshops.html). For a list of supplies go to heritage-guild.com and select Current Workshops.

March 8 and 9, 2019 — Figure Workshop with Watercolorist Don Andrews

The Heritage Fine Arts Guild of Arapahoe County announces a two-day workshop led by internationally recognized watercolorist and teacher Don Andrews.
Addressing the figure with the same artistic freedom and looseness as other subjects in nature is the central theme of Don’s figure class.
Throughout the workshop Andrews will stress that successful figure painting is more than a visual experience of mere anatomical parts; it is an exploration of color, design and paint quality as well.
Don’s figure classes are geared to intermediate and advanced painters who are looking for a challenge. Daily demonstrations will excite and stimulate those artists who are eager to stretch beyond the usual answers and discover a new looseness and expressive paint quality in their work. Beyond all that, Andrews believes that painting with watercolor should be fun!
As a graduate of Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, Don Andrews is an active member and past board director of the American Watercolor Society. His paintings have received numerous awards in national watercolor competitions, including three awards from the American Watercolor Society.
Andrews has authored books including "Interpreting the Figure in Watercolor", "Interpreting the Landscape in Watercolor" and "Rough Sketches: Short Stories of a Traveling Artist", He has also created two DVD sets that follow his figure and landscape workshop curriculum. Another of his DVDs, "Making Watercolor Glow" is based on his original video. Don is featured in the Watson Guptill publication "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Watercolor" and the North Light book, "Confident Color". He has had numerous feature articles published in American Artist magazine and the Watercolor issue of American Artist.
A resident of Bastrop, Texas, Don has conducted painting workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe for over 30 years.
Participants will benefit from a more personal understanding of the painting possibilities available in the exciting world of figure painting. This workshop will be packed with demonstrations, discussions, individual help and personal and group critiques. A live model will be central to the workshop.

February 2, 2019 - Acrylic Exploration with Lance Green

LITTLETON, CO. The Heritage Fine Arts Guild of Arapahoe County will host a February 2 workshop led by well-known Colorado artist Lance Green. Green will share his philosophy, knowledge and application of color and expressionism. This enables participants to embrace his process - resulting in an individual art piece from the heart.
Lance Green is a colorist and expressionist but more than that he is a storyteller, conjuring images that take the viewer beyond the mere skin and bone of the subject and into the soul that lies hidden beneath.
The workshop will be divided into several segments. To begin, Lance will spend approximately one hour demonstrating an entire painting. Next, students will warm up with a collaborative painting. Small groups of five or six will divide the painting into parts. One person will work on the painting for ten minutes, then pass it on to the next person in their group who will continue working on it. This segment will last about one hour. The paintings will be allowed to dry during a one-hour lunch break. The workshop will conclude with participants doing a painting based on a photo image of their choice.
Lance Green was born in Colorado and lived there until the age of ten. For several years he traveled about the Southwest with his mother and stepfather, living in the Colorado high country, the bayous of Lake Texarkana and the high deserts of New Mexico and Arizona where he was immersed in native art and culture.
As a teen, the family settled in east Los Angeles where he developed a love for Latin art and culture. While attending high school his art teacher, Linda Stevens, gave him the guidance that he needed to set his life course as an artist.
His work reflects the influence of the the late contemporary master Fritz Scholder with whom he did a series of one-on-one workshops in the late sixties. Others whose works contributed to his unique style include Nathan Oliviera, Manual Neri, and Mexican masters Laura Hernandez and Rufino Tamayo.
Lance now makes his home in Manitou Springs where he paints in his studio. His work is displayed in Copper Moon Gallery in Taos, New Mexico, Canyon Road Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Darpino Gallery in Manitou Springs, and Wilde Meyer Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Pre-registration is required for the workshop and artists aged 18 years and older may attend. A registration form is available at (http://heritage-guild.com/current-workshops.html). Supply list includes two or three canvases 24 x 36 or 30 x 40, photo images, and your usual acrylic supplies.

Saturday January 5, 2019 “Abstracting the Ordinary” with Victoria Kwasinski

The Heritage Fine Arts Guild of Arapahoe County presents a one-day workshop Saturday, January 5, led by popular Denver artist and teacher Victoria Kwasinski.
Victoria Kwasinski holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design where she graduated class valedictorian.
This one-day workshop will encourage you to find inspiration from objects that are found in our everyday lives. We will abstract those objects by use of exaggeration, altered color and simplification to find new ideas for 'semi-abstract' work. Plan to bring several objects, i.e. vases, containers, fruit, boxes, etc., and/or photographs of such. Supplies needed are: a sketchbook + pencils/charcoal and your normal painting supplies. Victoria Kwasinski holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design where she graduated class valedictorian.
This workshop is for all levels of experience, and all mediums.
